Hammond Middle School Math Contest Results

Congratulations to all of the participants in the Hammond Middle School Math Contest on Saturday. We had 47 students participate from 8 schools. It was a lot of fun for me, and I hope it was for all of the students as well.

Here are the students that won individual awards:

1st Place – David Stoner (St. Mary’s Help of Christians School)
2nd Place – Nick Leonhardt (Irmo Middle School)
3rd Place – Albert Wang (Dutch Fork Middle School)
High Scoring 8th grader – Sarah Lee (Dent Middle School)
High Scoring 7th grader – Allen Wilbur (Dutch Fork Middle School)
High Scoring 6th grader – Max Land (Dutch Fork Middle School)

For prizes, the first place individual won The Math Book: From Pythagoras to the 57th Dimension, 250 Milestones in the History of Mathematics by Clifford Pickover.

The second place individual won a $20 gift certificate to The Art of Problem Solving – a wonderful site for mathematical problem solvers.

The third place individual won Competition Math for Middle School by Jason Batterson.

The coach of the first place school also received the DVD What are the Chances? Probability Made Clear by Michael Starbird.
