## A Local High School Math Team in the News and Recent Results from Some Math Contests

Flora Math team has had an impressive string of wins in high level math contests this year. Congratulations to their math team and their coach, Patrick Rybarczyk, for all their hard work and success. **USC Math Contest**

Congratulations to all of the Math Circle students who participated in USC Math Contest last month. 11 of the top 16 students have participated with us in the Middle School or High School Math Circle before. Here is a list of the top 6 finishers in the contest:

**1st place — Hardie Cate.** Hardie is a junior at A. C. Flora High School. He won a four year USC scholarship in the amount of $8000 per year, a $400 cash prize, and a plaque.

**2nd place — Sage Price.** Sage is a senior at A. C. Flora High School. He won a four year USC scholarship in the amount of $4000 per year, a $200 cash prize, and a plaque.

**3rd place — Elliott Chartock.** Elliott is a junior at A. C. Flora High School. He won a four year USC scholarship in the amount of $2000 per year, a $100 cash prize, and a plaque.

**4th place — David Stoner.** David in the eighth grade at St. Mary Catholic School. He won a $50 cash prize.

**5th place — David Zhang.** David is a senior at Academic Magnet High School. He won a $50 cash prize.

**6th place — William Zhang.** William is a senior at Academic Magnet High School. He won a $50 cash prize.

**College of Charleston Math Meet**

The College of Charleston Math Contest took place on February 26th. The College of Charleston Math Meet has been held since 1978 and is one of the largest math events in the southeast. There are several events which students can participate in throughout the day, and several talks which they can attend as well. There was a lot of strong competition from schools in other states this year, but some South Carolina students came away with awards:

**Math Marathon**

**1st Place, David Stoner** (South Aiken High School)

**2nd Place, Michael Stoner** (South Aiken High School)

**Written Test, Level 2**

**2nd Place, David Stoner** (115) (South Aiken High School)

**3rd Place, Samadwara Reddy** (110) (Dutch Fork High School)

In addition, there were several South Carolina students who won honorable mention on the written tests, and others who won awards for other events at the Math Meet. Several South Carolina schools also won team events. To see the full list of winners you can look here:
